Our Choir Program
Who We Are
The Cityside Choirs are made up of over 250 students across three grade levels who explore and create music together. Each grade has its own large choir, but our students often perform in both smaller and larger ensembles in addition. We also have one auditioned ensemble that meets outside of regular class time. We love attending and performing at events throughout the school year and building a family community while making music together!
What We Do
Our mission is simple, but big: to create an environment where every one of our students is encouraged to shine as bright as they can…individually and as a choir family. Through shared musical (and nonmusical!) experiences, students thrive on challenges that stretch them, inspire them to step out of their comfort zones, and instill confidence and positive self-worth. Students learn about their own voices and about what it means to be part of an ensemble, how to understand and read music, how to exhibit professionalism on and off the performance stage, and many other skills that they will take with them after their time in the classroom is done. Along this crazy journey, laughter and joy are our constant companions, keeping us grounded and reminding us that white we always strive toward perfection, the journey to get there is just as important (and the funny moments are some of the best parts!).
Why We Do It
Students will travel through our classroom for such a short time in the whole scheme of their lives - we hope that what they learned about music will stick with them forever, but what we really hope they remember is the relationships they formed and how valued, loved and important they felt when they were in the choir classroom. We hope that the time our students spend with us helps to shape them into better humans who are ready to make their mark on the world. Choir at Cityside is more than just a choir - it is an experience that teaches and empowers students to embrace their authentic selves, gaining confidence, empathy, a sense of unity, and other important life skills along the way. Every kid matters and every voice matters, and we are so lucky to have our students!
